Arson and the dangers of fire setting

A message to parents: Help us prevent arson.

If your child comes home smelling of smoke, it could be more than just cigarettes, a campfire or BBQ. We’ve seen a recent rise in deliberate fires being set around Northamptonshire this summer break, and we're asking for your help to stop this dangerous behavior before it gets worse.

πŸ”₯ Arson is NOT a prank – it's a serious crime. Setting fires can cause severe damage to property, harm wildlife, and most importantly, put lives at risk, including their own.

πŸ“ž If you notice your child smelling of smoke or talking about starting fires, please speak with them about the serious consequences. Explain that arson can lead to criminal records, heavy fines, or even imprisonment. This can affect future careers and even travel plans.

πŸ›‘ Let's work together to keep our communities safe. If you have any concerns or information, don’t hesitate to contact us. Together, we can prevent a tragedy and make Northamptonshire a safer place for everyone.

If you wish to contact our joint Arson Task Force team with any concerns or for advice, please email: arsontaskforce@northantsfire.gov.uk

If you have information about arson, you can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
