On Saturday 19/10/2024, 2 very unusual vehicle crimes occurred in Thrapston and Thorpe Waterville in East Northamptonshire.

The same modus operandi was used in both crimes whereby the suspects (described as Eastern Europeans) arrived to view cars that were advertised for sale privately, and whilst having the bonnet up to look at the engine, one of them distracted the victim whilst the other poured oil into the coolant tank. This causes the engine warning light to illuminate and the potential buyer to seek a significant price reduction on the car.

Please be aware of this scam, should you ever attempt to sell your vehicle privately.
