Rural Agricultural Thefts

Over the last 24 hours there have been reports on the Border with Leicestershire of a farm location being attended during the night, Unknown persons tampering with the farmers Pick up , I would imagine to prevent them giving chase, Then the Manitou Telehandler was attempted to be stolen from the Yard.  Luckily on this occasion, technology on the machine prevented the theft.  A large amount of Diesel was then stolen from the scene and offenders made off without being seen.

You may be thinking, why are you being told about a crime in another county?  The reason for this is that Rural Crime isn't just a localised Issue.  Organised Crime gangs hit the counties a couple of years ago and between Northamptonshire and Leicestershire, Several farmers became victims of Crime..  Crime that effects your daily working life due to the machines being stolen.  Its time to up our anti.  Introduce extra security measures in your machines, Farms and Yards.  Lock machines away over night if possible and remove GPS facilities where at all possible.  Overtly mark your assets and add livery to your fleet.  Make your machines identifiable from the air for Police to search and locate using Drones and Air support should the event occur.

A further crime reported to us first thing this morning was of two items of Plant Machinery off a small development site.  as enquiries started to develop, Contact was made to us from Radius Telematics.  formally known as Cantrack.  they advised that one of the items stolen from the incident last night had been fitted with a device and along with their investigator, i attended and located the item of Plant machinery.  This has successfully been recovered and back with the Owner.  The second item of machinery was later located by the local Farmer, who after being contacted earlier in the day by myself, had taken it upon themselves to search the local area.  Several hours later and that asset also located and recovered.

This incident shows the importance of having a thatcham approved tracking system attached to your machines.
